For our artificial putting green installations, as far as the base preparation concerns, we always recommend to use the same methods of all artificial grass installations: one layer of 2-1/2” road base and one layer of 1-1/2” of decomposed granite which will provide solid and smooth base, to learn about more step by step guidelines, please visit this link: https://www.globalsynturf.com/installation-guides, or call us at 877 796 8873 or email us at [email protected], thank you.

Why are there different sizes for golf cups? Does it depend on which putting green I order?

2020-08-28T02:52:30+00:00

We carry four different golf cups to go with our artificial putting greens, all the cups we have are with industry standard diameter of 4”, but vary in depth and materials:

1. Aluminum cup with 4-1/2” depth

2. Aluminum cup with 6-1/2” depth

3. Plastic cup with 4-1/2” depth

4. Plastic cup with 6-1/2” depth

There is really not much of the difference between a plastic and aluminum golf cups when it comes to artificial putting green installations. The aluminum cup is more expensive and be more solid, however, it can get rusty from time to time; plastic cup is much cheaper but serve the purpose and can last a long time without issues. So it is more a budget and material preference when it comes to choose a golf cup, and we will recommend both from the functionality standpoint. All our artificial putting greens are very consistent at ball rolling speed: without infill, the average speed for all our putting greens is at about 7-9 ft.. With infills and rolling press done properly on the surface, the ball speed can easily get up to 11-14 range. So when you pick our putting greens, all you need to make decision on is the color from light to medium to dark. There is no absolute minimum requirements for putting green holes distances. You don’t have to line up the holes straightly and should consider the width as well to create the distances between the holes. If you have a very limited space, I will suggest you to get the artificial green and not to cut holes in them, instead, you can get a portable golf holes placed on the surface of your green: this way, you will be able to adjust the hole locations at your desire. You can find such portable golf cups from Amazon, this is an example, and please be aware that such items are not from Global Syn-Turf: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0026ECZC4/ref=ppx_yo_mob_b_inactive_ship_o0_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1

No, the artificial grass and artificial putting green are totally different types of products: regular artificial grass has both straight fibers and the curled thatching in it which make it a replica of real grass lawn; artificial putting green is very similar to the real greens, which is made of one type of textured/curled fiber. To better tell the difference between the normal landscape turf and the artificial putting greens, I will recommend you to get some free samples from one of our local distributors near you, please email us at [email protected] with your address so we can get you connected ASAP.
