Is it possible to install turf without altering the soil?

The two main reasons to excavate soil and build sub base for artificial grass are: drainage and smooth surface for turf to be laid on. If your application won’t have concern of water being properly drained and your current surface is solid and smooth enough, you probably won’t need to alter the soil.
